Q: What is a digital badge?

A: Digital badges are web-enabled versions of a credential, certification, or learning outcome which can be verified in real time, online.

Q: Why should I claim my badge?

A: Digital credentials can be carried with you throughout your professional career, and the NatStuCo badges are a great way to start building your collection. They can be added to various platforms, including LinkedIn, for future employers to see. To learn more about claiming and sharing your badge, watch this helpful video from Credly.

Q: How does my badge get displayed?

A: We have partnered with Credly, an end-to-end solution for issuing and managing digital credentials, to translate the learning outcomes you’ve demonstrated into a badge, issued and managed through the company’s platform. The technology Credly uses is based on the Open Badge Standards maintained by IMS Global. This enables you to manage, share, and verify your competencies digitally.

Q: What are the benefits of a badge?

A: Representing your skills as a badge gives you a way to share your abilities online in a way that is simple, trusted and can be easily verified in real time. Badges provide concrete evidence of what you had to do to earn your credential and what you’re now capable of.

Q: How will I know if I’ve earned a badge?

A: You will receive an email notification from [email protected] on behalf of the National Student Council (NatStuCo) with instructions for claiming your badge and setting up your account.

Q: What if I don’t want my badge to be public?

A: You can easily configure your privacy settings in your student profile. You’re in complete control of the information about yourself that is made public.

Q: What’s to keep someone else from copying my badge and using it?

A: While badges are simply digital image files, they are uniquely linked to data hosted on Credly’s platform. This link to verified data makes them more reliable and secure than a paper-based certificate. It also eliminates the possibility of anyone claiming your credential and your associated identity.

Q: I attended the 2021 National Student Council Conference! How can I get my badge?

A: Students must start by creating a student account* on the NatStuCo website, which your adviser will need to verify. Check out for more information on the process**!

Next, you’ll complete the application by July 16. Tell us what you learned at the conference and how you’re planning to use it to make a positive impact in your school and community. We’ll review your submission after the July 16 deadline to confirm that you have satisfied the criteria to earn the badge. Get started on the application here.

**Do you already have an account with NASSP through your National Honor Society or National Junior Honor Society membership? Great! Just email us at [email protected] so we can add your NatStuCo membership to your account.

Q: How long will it take to receive my digital badge?

A: We’ll start reviewing application submissions after the July 16 deadline. Please create your NatStuCo student account and have your adviser verify it before that date to ensure your eligibility. If you have met all criteria, we’ll issue your badge near the end of July. You will receive an email notification from [email protected] on behalf of NatStuCo with instructions for claiming your badge and setting up your Credly account, if you haven’t already done so.

Q: How do I claim my badge?

A: Follow the instructions in the email notification from [email protected] to set up your Credly account. If you have already claimed the NatStuCo student badge, then you can just log in to your existing account. All of your badges will display on your dashboard, but you’ll need to click into each of them to accept, set your privacy, and share with your network.

Can’t find the email notification? Just click here and create an account on the Credly platform with the same email address you used for the NatStuCo website. All of the badges issued to this email address will be available on your Credly dashboard.

Q: I completed the application, but did not receive a badge. What should I do?

A: In addition to completing the application, you must also have a NatStuCo student account, which your adviser verified, using the same email address as you did for the application. If you think you met the badge earner criteria, be sure to check your spam folder in case the email notification was filed there. You can also follow the steps in [How do I claim my badge?] to create a Credly account and check to see if the badge appears in your dashboard.

If you used a different email address, did not have your NatStuCo student account verified by July 16, or otherwise did not receive a badge for which you met the criteria, please contact [email protected] for assistance.
